Artist: Cornelis Botke Size: 16 1/2 x 20 in Remarks: 1940, Between Santa Paula and Fillmore in Ventura County. Los Angeles County Fair, Pomona, First prize 1938. Society of American Etchers 1940. Exhibited at Smithsonian Institute in 1944. Cornelis Botke (1887-1954) was a Dutch-born American painter and etcher. He emigrated to the United States in 1930, and he first lived in Chicago before moving to Southern California. By the time of his death, his artwork hung in the New York Public Library, the Los Angeles Public Library, and the California State Library. His etchings are in the permanent collections (but not currently on view) of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
